LAST WEEK - "THE DIOCESAN MEET"

Meet Director: Tim Chavez

What a great meet to end a wonderful season!!!!! We finished with a record 637 runners, not counting our many, inspirational "fun-runners," so we had close to 700 runners! But the numbers were not as important as the spirit of the meet, the enthusiasm of the runners, the care of the coaches and officials and the loving support of parents and spectators!

Thanks to all the parish coordinators, coaches and our loyal cadre of meet volunteers who "came through", to make the event a memorable one. A special thanks to the many who contributed to the meet, especially to Tim Chavez for directing the meet; Tim and the Holy Rosary crew, Moe Hernandez and others for set up and clean up; Raewyn Cummings and the "team of Corpus Christi Accountants" for the prompt results; the set up and clean up crew, especially especially Tim, the Holy Rosary Crew, Moe Hernandez and all those who came early and stayed late; our "Doctors" who spent the meet caring for skinned knees; the meet officials who patrolled well and efficiently; Sr. Denise and her ever-loyal finish line crew; Chris Sotelo and the SLOT girls for leading a great fun run... and many others!

A special thank you to "Marshal Mark" Molinar, who is retiring this year, for coordinating our marshals and course monitors. He has had a large role in making our meets safe and enjoyable for all! We will be looking for a replacement, so please let us know if you would like to volunteer for this important task!

God gave us a great day for our young runners!

FEES

If you still owe team fees from the season, please mail a check to the CYO Office, 2121 Harrison Street, Oakland 94612. The fees are $3. per runner per meet.

RESULTS

Results for the Diocesan Meet and for all of our meets are posted on the results page. Thanks again to Raewyn Cummings for her hours and hours inputing results this past season!

THE SEASON

We had positive coaches, cheering parents and willing, capable meet volunteers. Our young runners provided inspiration through energy, both before after and during races, dedication and just by having a good time. There were so many new runners, a testament to the dedication of the coaches in creating a prositve atmosphere for young people to run! We remember the exciting races, the dedication of all the runners – especially the ones in the back of the pack, with spectators cheering for all, fast or slow. We also remember the great food, sharing and many smiles after the meets!

Special "Thanks" to:

• John Randazzo, Tim Chavez and Boyd Fottrell as Diocesan Coordinators, for all their tireless work at the meets and behind the scenes;

• Raewyn Cummings for another outstanding job with accurate and "timely" results;

• Sister Denise and her dedicated finish line awards crew for another smooth finish line;

• Grace House (CYO) for answering numerous questions on the phone, directing runners to the right park, giving information ...etc. etc. etc.

• Sue Mart, Ed Olkowski and the finish line crew for starting, timing and "directing traffic";

• Marshal Mark Molinar who did another superb job as head marshal, and all those who marked courses and policed the fields;

•Our "doctor" crew, who bandaged numerous knees and added that special touch of compassion to dry the tears;

• Chris Sotelo and her SLOT "tiger / rabbits" who led the best race of each meet – the fun runs;

• All of the meet directors and parish meet sponsors, who took on the additional responsibility of organization, as well as coaching their teams;

• All the parents volunteers who came forward week after week to serve as meet officials.

• And especially to all of the dedicated parish coordinators and coaches who organize, lead and inspire week after week, season after season.

The great Jesse Owens summed up the season well for us:

"Friends on the field of athletic competition are the real gold in Track. [and Cross Country!]
Awards become corroded. Friends gather no dust."

See you in Track and Field!
